Ohio Midwives Alliance
A midwife is a health care professional who provides holistic health care to the childbearing woman and her newborn. She combines traditional skills and modern health care techniques to safeguard normal childbirth and ensure prompt recognition and referral of complications. She encourages parents to take an active role in their birth experience. The midwife maintains liaisons with physicians and other health care providers, since she sees their skills as complementary to her own.
Our Purpose
Founded in 1984, Ohio Midwives Alliance (OMA) is a professional organization of midwives and their advocates who recognize and support the practice of midwifery in all settings.
OMA’s purpose is:
To expand communication and to build support among Ohio midwives and their supporters.

To promote the Midwives Model of Care.

To promote research and disseminate information regarding the safety of midwifery care and home birth.
​
To provide continuing education to midwives and public education about midwifery, prenatal care, childbirth, postpartum and newborn care.
