North American Registry Of Midwives

The North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) is an international certification agency whose mission is to establish and administer certification for the credential “Certified Professional Midwife” (CPM). Ohio Families for Safe Birth

Ohio Families for Safe Birth (OFSB) is a consumer-driven effort to create a statewide coalition of families and professionals promoting legislation and policies grounded in the Midwives Model of Care which support families’ access to safe, appropriate, evidence-based care during pregnancy, labor, delivery and postpartum. Our purposes are:

  • Supporting legislation that licenses Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) in Ohio;
  • Raising awareness and support for families choosing an out-of-hospital birth as a safe, appropriate option;
  • Supporting safe family and baby initiatives in all birth settings.

The Ohio Friends of Midwives (OFOM) is a non-profit, grassroots, consumer-based organization dedicated to supporting and promoting midwifery, particularly direct-entry midwifery, also known as “lay midwifery”, as a quality health care option for Ohio women and their families. OFOM serves as an educational resource for the public and for both professional and non-professional groups who share an interest in the Midwifery Model of Care for pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.

Citizens for Midwifery

Citizens for Midwifery is a non-profit, volunteer, grassroots organization. Founded by several mothers in 1996, it is the only national consumer-based group promoting the Midwives Model of Care.


Direct-Entry Midwifery Study Council Report

The Big Push for Midwives Campaign

The Big Push for Midwives Campaign was born from the National Birth Policy Coalition, which has coalesced around the following organizing statement:

“Increasing access to the Midwives Model of Care in all settings is essential to the health and well-being of childbearing women and their babies. The National Birth Policy Coalition supports legislative initiatives that promote the autonomous practice of Certified Professional Midwives and Certified Nurse-Midwives, and that ensure the availability of safe, evidence-based care during pregnancy, labor, birth and postpartum.”

The mission of The Big Push for Midwives is to build winning, state-of-the-art advocacy campaign efforts in every participating state through a continuing partnership with policy makers, professional staff and supporters.

Ohio Physicians for Midwives

The Ohio Physicians For Midwives (OPFM) is a community of health care providers and researchers from many specialties who support the midwifery care model.

OPFM recognizes a woman’s right to choose a home birth and want the best possible care for these women. Certified Professional Midwives (CPMs) are the national standard for Direct Entry Midwives serving the home birth community and OFFM agrees that they should be licensed in Ohio, as they are in 22 other States.
